Hazelwood Green

At 178 acres, Hazelwood Green is the largest brownfield redevelopment site in the City of Pittsburgh’s history. Situated along the Monongahela River, the home of a former steel mill is evolving into a high-performing mixed-use neighborhood. Hazelwood Green seeks to be a low carbon development with aggressive energy, water, waste, and transportation goals, compliant with 2030 and P4 targets, and is to be certified under LEED for Neighborhood Development.

evolveEA is involved in multiple sustainability initiatives in the redevelopment of Hazelwood Green, namely:

Mill 19

The Mill 19 building is a large industrial structure in the center of Hazelwood Green which contains a series of office buildings and labs for the tech industry and research institutions such as Carnegie Mellon’s Advanced Robotics Manufacturing and its Manufacturing Futures Initiative. evolveEA was part of Carnegie Mellon’s design team for their Mill 19 facilities, assisting with sustainability strategies for the project and managing the successful attainment of LEED Gold for Commercial Interiors.

Roundhouse

A catalyst project for Hazelwood Green development, this historic building is targeting LEED v4 Gold for New Construction. As the sustainability consultant, evolveEA is working with the project team to implement energy and water savings,  progressive waste management practices, recycled content, and locally produced materials.

Bus Shelters

evolveEA teamed up with artists Carin Mincemoyer and Alisha B. Wormsley to design a series of bus shelters in and around Hazelwood Green. The concept that the project team is bringing to life via community connections, local input, and mobility infrastructure is focused on Migrating Species.
