Fifth & Dinwiddie Transit Oriented Development

Fifth and Dinwiddie is a multi-use development that will transform parking lots to a new center of activity for the Uptown neighborhood. The project includes affordable and market-rate housing at a major station along a bus rapid transit route and will become the community’s outdoor living room. Community engagement informs its strong sense of place and opportunities for cultural expression.

evolveEA led the masterplanning of the public spaces and is designing the public spaces with artists from the Hill District and Uptown. The project will create over 400 units of high-performance housing, community spaces, retail, office spaces, and structured parking, and includes the renovation of the Mugele building, a historic industrial building, into a tech training center. The low-carbon development will be designed to passive house standards and is ready for on-site solar, and a possible connection to Uptown’s innovative district energy plant.

The project was recognized with a Visionary Placemaker award in 2021 from the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Pittsburgh.
