Varun Shah
Varun is passionate about creating sustainable, resilient communities and fighting for environmental justice through his work in architecture, policy research, and approach to design. His background in architecture and urban design includes designing single family residences, large scale institutions and educational projects internationally. As an Urban Designer and Analyst at evolveEA, Varun works on community planning projects, as well as mobility planning and housing studies. He has previously worked with non-profits and stakeholders in rural, agrarian California, to reduce the impact of the statewide housing crisis in the Salinas Valley, and volunteered with urban community organizations that focus on environmental justice litigation.Â
Varun has worked with the Environmental Democracy Project, an Oakland based non-profit that focuses on countering the impacts of infrastructural isolation of vulnerable communities in the city, which informs his approach to design and planning. Varun received his Master of Urban Design from the University of California, Berkeley and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from CEPT University, India.
