Even though the global pandemic brought most of the world to a halt, building operations still continued. We recognize the challenges COVID brought to building benchmark measurements and applaud two of our clients who were able to attain Energy Star certification despite the hurdles: DMI Industries headquarters in Charleroi, PA, and the historic 411 Seventh Avenue building in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Safely reopening buildings post-pandemic is going to be a challenge. Both occupants and building owners are anxious that their spaces are clean, healthy, and risk free. There are many proven practices that, when implemented into systems correctly, reduce the overall likelihood of occupants coming into contact with pathogens in buildings.
The US Steel Tower is managed by Winthrop Management, who has been working with evolveEA since 2013 to incrementally retrofit systems and improve operations. The US Steel Tower achieved LEED V4 Silver Certification under the Operations + Maintenance (O+M): Existing Buildings rating system in 2019. One of the most unique aspects of this effort has been the Tenant Sustainability Committee created by Winthrop with help from evolveEA, which meets quarterly to collaborate on green initiatives for the whole building, with tenants and management leveraging each other's efforts.
