Our Parks Lancaster
The Comprehensive Parks Recreation and Open Space Plan is a 10-year playbook to give the City of Lancaster the tools needed for long-term equity and sustainability throughout its parks, recreation, and open space network. evolveEA is leading a multi-disciplinary team of experts to activate Lancaster and its residents to envision the park system that they would like to have and how it can reflect the present and future community. One of the stated goals of the project is to ensure that all residents live within a ten minute walk of a high quality park. Our preliminary analysis found that while most of the city is within a short walk to a park, a large section of central Lancaster is not within fifteen minutes of fifteen acres or more of park land.
To improve this, we are working with community stakeholders to define what a quality park system is, to improve access and connections to and between green spaces, and to verify that proposed improvements will increase equitable access to quality parks.
