Two Pittsburgh Area Projects Win Urban Design Awards
The American Institute of Architects recently selected two evolveEA projects for urban design awards, both of which are based in the Pittsburgh region. The Penn Station Transit Plaza design for Downtown Pittsburgh, part of the Busway Futures project led by PCRG, was recognized with a Certificate of Merit from AIA Pittsburgh. And the Breathe Easy Plan to improve air quality in the Millvale Ecodistrict received an Honor Award from AIA Pittsburgh as well.
Of the Breathe Easy Plan, the awards jury said:
“This project demonstrates how a citizen science research project can utilize expertise in the region to empower residents and produce impactful placemaking strategies. It is very well presented and is creative and useful to the community.”
The jury commented on the Penn Station Transit Plaza, saying:
“We appreciate the project vision that reimagines the public space at Penn Station, critical as the city works to revitalize the downtown experience. This project is very well presented and successful at identifying projects over time, making it manageable.”
