Join GBA, the Pittsburgh 2030 District, University of Pittsburgh, evolveEA, and other project team members for a guided tour of the University of Pittsburgh’s new Recreation & Wellness Center. The 270,000 square foot facility includes a 28,000 square foot green roof; bird-friendly glass; and biophilic elements including natural materials, plants, a saltwater swimming pool, and more. The project exemplifies Pitt Sustainability Plan goals including prioritizing energy performance, occupant health and comfort; rooftop solar; and type and source of materials, including nontoxic and low-emitting.
This tour will explore how sustainability goals were integrated into the building’s design and construction. Attendees will learn about the rainwater management system, collaborations throughout the design process, mobility benefits and amenities, and the adjacent outdoor Panther Overlook. As part of a LEED Master Site, the tour of this LEED Gold-pursuant building will include key decision moments in the certification process that shaped both the building and its relationship to the rest of Pitt’s campus.
