14STW LIVING:
West Huntington Housing Study
14STW LIVING is a vision for housing renewal in a burgeoning arts and cultural district. The project positions West Huntington to attract partners and funding with project typologies and development scenarios, a system for evaluating property conditions, case studies, and a five-year action plan for catalytic sites.
The study was performed for Renewall with funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and included a housing gap analysis to define the neighborhood’s housing needs, prioritize investments, and a suite of affordable housing tools for implementation. This housing study focuses on the area surrounding the 14STW commercial corridor, which has experienced growth following evolveEA’s District Plan completed two years earlier.
Building on the momentum of the District Plan, 14STW LIVING establishes evaluation criteria for potential development and outlines development scenarios for the neighborhood’s major catalytic sites, including a historic factory, big box shopping center, and church parking lots.
The study positions West Huntington to attract federal and state grant opportunities with a plan that:
- characterizes existing housing need and housing inventory
- identifies residential test fits that can demonstrate market demand
- launches a digital property tool to collect and track data housing conditions
- compiles local and national models around housing programs, design, construction, and funding.
